The walk to Coit Tower is scenic, but steep!
If you're willing to take your time and hike over  300 steep stairs then a foot hike is a good option.
Many people take the Greenwich Street steps which are closest to the tower, and return the same way.
The Filbert street steps, just to the south, lead through much more of the lush landscaping characteristic of
Filbert street stairs which pass through the Grace Merchant gardens famous for spotting beautiful parrots. At the bottom of this hike is the Levis Jeans Headquarters.

                      BY BICYCLE

Unless you’re on steroids, riding a bicycle to Coit Tower is not advisable.
The hike path has stairs and the street is narrowed by street parking. The ride up Telegraph Hill is simply too risky and
clearly insane.

GETTING TO COIT TOWER

                     BY CAR

Warning: Parking at Coit Tower is very limited.
Coit Tower sits on a hill, the drive up is steep and a little bumpy as you get closer. Look out for pedestrians.
You can drive to Coit Tower by following the signs near Stockton and Lombard streets in North Beach.

Once again, remember there's very limited parking at the tower especially during the summer months.
Best option is to drive up to Coit Tower and chance a parking spot at the roundabout parking or search for street parking in the surrounding neighborhood.

A flashing yellow light along the approach road warns you when the parking lot is full. Weekends and
evenings are popular times to visit and you should expect long waits to drive up the hill.
Once you are on the narrow winding road to the top, you are committed, there is little space to turn
around and doing so is dangerous.

                     BY BUS

Take Muni Bus Number 39 from
Fisherman's Wharf.
The  #39 Muni  bus leaves every
half hour from Washington Square
as well.
